The nomads of the Antitaurus, however, call themselves "Aydinli" (= people from Aydin), a town and its surrounding in Southwest-Anatolia.

The Aydinli and Yörük were organized in tribes, large political units of some 1000 people, some of them, such as the Karakoyunlu (=People with Black Sheep), known already since the 13th century (Sümer 1967), but already in the fifties these tribes no longer had significance as political units.

As for the clan of Aydinli Johansen studied, there was no traditional clan name, since they formed as a group in the 19th century, but they were locally called "Karaevli" (=people with black houses), a name that refers to the black goat-wool tents they were living in.

On the Trek I
The nomad household of Molla Ali (532) from the Kirbasi-lineage on the way to the summer-pasture in spring 1957; the young man in front of it is Dede (Mustafa, 597), Johansen's "brother" from the same lineage. Already in 1982 nearly all the nomads migrated with the help of tractors or trucks. Only the steepest ways had to be made with the few camels, which some families still kept.

In the center stands the old patriarch, to his right his elder son Aliboz (586), then the younger one, Dede (597), still a batchelor, to his left came his wife Döndü (445), then her beloved daughter Yeter (611) and as the lowest in the family ranking the daughter-in-law, Ayse (359). Isa's little granddaughter had no rank yet, but was given with caressings from one person to the next.
